MUSKY FISHING

Musky hunting trips can be arranged in summer and fall on several of the outstanding musky waters near Minocqua/Lake Tomahawk, Wisconsin. We can either plug (baitcaster or spinner) or fly fish from my Hewes skiff or row troller. I have latest appropriate tackle available or you can bring your favorite gear. Catch and release only - scales and camera on board to record a trophy fish. Preferably one angler, but can take two. Everything provided but your Wisconsin fishing license. Rates are $50 an hour. Two-hour early morning or evening trips for one angler on Lake Tomahawk, my home waters, are available.

Instruction. If interested in learning how to fish for muskies, I'll teach you the basics for $25 an hour aboard your boat and and on waters of your choice. Minimum two hours, maximum four people on-board. Includes tackle, rigging, knots and lures; limnology and musky biology (graduate of DNR/University of Wisconsin Scientific Fishing Tactics and Techniques course at Kemp Natural Resources Station; baitcasting instruction; using your charts and electronics (sonar and GPS); and how to land and successfully release a big fish.

SALMON FLY FISHING

Join me this fall for salmon fishing in the Sheboygan, Pigeon, Manitowoc, East Twin, and/or Kewaunee Rivers for kings, coho, browns, and steelhead. Fly fishing and catch and release only. The fishing runs are dependent on rains, water levels and temperature and will vary from day to day. I'll pick a fishing location based on recent experience and water conditions or we can reconnoiter together. These trips are in-stream fly casting excursions for one angler, you will need polarized glasses, hip boots or waders and a Wisconsin fishing license and Great Lakes salmon stamp. I'll provide everything else. Arrangements can be made for you to be picked up at a local hotel, breakfast spot or tackle shop or we can meet at a prearrange waterside location.

The Sheboygan, Pigeon, Manitowoc, East Twin and Kewaunee Rivers and Lake Michigan shore line offer the wading fly angler an opportunity to test his/her fishing skills with some truly trophy sized fish in beautiful surroundings. Chinook Salmon of twenty-plus pounds, bright red hook jawed Coho to fifteen pounds or more, Brown Trout in the mid-teens and spectacular Steelhead frequent these waters. The runs start in September and continue through the winter. The peak runs are usually during October and November and the run in each stream is dependent on temperature and water flows. We'll fish where the action is (or was most recently.)
I do only fly fishing while wading and practice CPR (catch, photograph and release). Ok, maybe I keep one for the table now and then.

Fishermen need their own waders, good polarized sun glasses - light tint, and a Wisconsin fishing license, and salmon stamp. A two day license costs $14. I provide every thing else you need - rods, flies, leaders, and casting instruction. You are of course, welcome to bring your own fly rod and/or flies. I suggest at least a 7 wt. rod with a good reel and at least a 100 yards of 30# backing.

The key to success is seeing fish and then often repeated accurate casts which result in good drifts to fish whose minds are not focused on eating. Casting practice helps!

Rates are $200 for a morning or afternoon fishing for a single angler - you are welcome to bring your kid. Next day or afternoon charter after morning fishing half price if booked in advance. Email me at CaptPete(at)TimesFlyN.com to work out details. CC# books your trip. Cancellation policy: No charge with 7 days notice or if slot is rebooked. Guide makes weather decisions. I'll pick you up at your motel or meet you at a convenient restaurant or tackle shop or appropriate boat ramp. Brats and beer lunch is on me.

The links below will help you get ready. Practice with your fly rod helps too. Tight lines.
